Laurie Grant Nichols brings more than 17 years experience with non-profit organizations. Hands On Georgia's new CEO looks forward to working with residents across Georgia to expand Hands On Georgia and its impact on communities statewide.

In a surprise presentation, volunteer leaders from across the state thanked "Miss Edith" Harvey for her dedication to community service and honored her as the 2007 Georgia Volunteer of the Year during the Georgia Summit on Volunteerism.

For the 2006 - 2007 program year, the Hands On Georgia AmeriCorps program met and in most cases, exceeded its program goals. The program now enters its second year with 12 members placed with six affiliates.

During a presentation at the Georgia Summit on Volunteerism, Georgia Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Mike Beatty joined Hands On Georgia Board Chair Eric Tanenblatt in awarding nine communities with State Challenge Grants ranging from $4,500 to $10,000.

Volunteers in all 159 counties in the state put their Hands On Georgia during the week of service.
