Residents across Georgia are gearing up to serve
their communities in volunteer service during Hands On Georgia Week 2007.
Sponsored by AGL Resources, Georgia Natural Gas, Georgia's Electric Membership
Corporations, InterContinental Hotels, and
SunTrust Directed Funds, the week of service runs September 29 through October
6.

More than 700 volunteer leaders are
expected to attend the
Georgia Summit on Volunteerism presented by
Hands On Georgia. The day long
event, entitled Stories of Service: From Inspiration to Action will be held on
Thursday, November 1 at the Georgia International Convention
Center in College Park. The $75 registration fee covers the cost of meals
and workshops.

Governor Sonny Perdue recently
announced the availability of additional funding to communities in Georgia to
implement volunteer recruitment and management programs.
The deadline for the
Hands On Georgia State Challenge Grant
application is Friday, October 12. More information about the

Hands On Georgia is accepting nominations now for
The Georgia Volunteer of the Year Award.
All nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2007. Winner
should be present to accept their award from Governor Sonny Perdue on Thursday,
October 16 at the Georgia Summit on Volunteerism in Atlanta.
