Now
in our third year, Hands On Georgia celebrates its early accomplishments in
anticipation of many more in 2007. Our affiliate total stands at 17 with
several more communities interested in joining our statewide efforts in support
of volunteerism.
We continue to appreciate the support
of the Governor and state legislature by making funding available for Georgia's
communities through the Hands On Georgia State Challenge Grants. In the span
of one year Hands On Georgia distributed $300,000 for volunteer programming in
communities across the state. With the required dollar for dollar match, more
than half a million dollars has been dedicated to community driven volunteer
programs.
The volunteer momentum is taking hold
in Georgia. Every county in the state answered the Governor's Call to Service
for Hands On Georgia Week 2006 with over 25,000 number of volunteers
participating; Georgians from all walks of life joined in a weekend of service
during Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend; and hundreds who directly serve
their communities participated in Hands On Georgia's first statewide conference
on volunteerism.
In this issue we announce the recipients of the third round of State Challenge
Grants; report on the activities of the MLK Day of Service; introduce two new
programs and take a look at one of our newest affiliates, Hands On Harlem.
We welcome your comments and recommendations on how Hands Of Georgia can more
effectively serve your community. Please feel free to contact us with your
suggestions at info@handsongeorgia.org.
Best Regards,

Eric Tanenblatt,
Chairman
