For one week, from September 30 through October 7,
Georgians answered the governor’s Call to Service and took part in Hands
On Georgia Week 2006. As many as 30,000 volunteers across the state gave more
than 125,000 hours participating in service projects in their communities.
Projects took place in every one of Georgia’s 159 counties.

Governor Sonny Perdue awarded $100,000 in state challenge
grants to 13 Georgia communities committed to implement community based
volunteer recruitment and management programs. Each community must match
the grant award with equal local funds, bringing the total award to $200,000

Hands On Georgia named Macon volunteer Eloise Hadaway the
2006 Georgia Volunteer of the Year. Governor Sonny Perdue made the presentation
to Hadaway during the opening session of the Georgia Summit on Volunteerism in
