Dear Georgians,

As governor, I am committed to work with our citizens to
achieve a
growing, educated, healthy and safe
Georgia. However, in order to achieve this goal,
all Georgians must be willing to do their part. We need to mobilize
citizens to action across Georgia. Three years
ago I worked with others to develop a strategy
for improving our communities through
volunteerism.
From this preliminary work, Hands On Georgia was
born.
It is my intention that Hands On Georgia serve as the premier statewide
organization, promoting volunteer service and
civic engagement. I am thankful for the
generosity of three Georgia institutions,
The Coca-Cola Company,
The Home Depot and The
Woodruff Foundation. Their initial
investment helped launch Hands On Georgia.
Since 2004 Hands On Georgia has grown to 17 affiliates in
diverse communities across the state.
During its signature event, Hands On Georgia
Week, it engages more than 30,000 volunteers who
contribute 125,000 hours of volunteer service to
communities across the state.
I am excited about the progress Hands On Georgia
has made. I hope you will partner with me in
being a part of its continued success.
