Rising Star Outreach

Becky Douglas

The Inspiration:

Becky Douglas’s 24 year old daughter, Amber, after struggling for 7 years with bipolar disorder, took her own life. After finding out that her daughter had been sending part of her college money each month to sponsor an orphanage in India, Becky decided to visit the orphanage.

The Action:

While in India Becky was horrified to see the leprosy-affected beggars that seemed to approach the car at every stop.  She had never seen such suffering.  Upon returning home,  she and 4 friends started Rising Star Outreach, a charity dedicated to helping the leprosy-affected of India.  Today her organization serves thousands of people.  Through micro-lending those afflicted by leprosy now own and operate their own businesses instead of begging on the streets.  A mobile medical clinic provides desperately needed medical care.  Rising Star children’s homes and schools provide training for the children of the colonies, so that the children can become productive citizens, instead of the next generation of leprosy beggars.  The scourge of leprosy is being eradicated.
